3/7 Today's activities include a lecture on mammals in Patagonia, an afternoon movie, Tower Heist, with english subtitles, lecture on Puerto Montt and bingo in the evening. I forgot to mention that the bridge is open all day to go up and watch how it all works. It was only closed twice, when we were going through the really narrow straits. T has spent lots of time looking around. He was really interested in how the life boat pods worked. Lots to investigate.
Some observations on the ferry: lots of germans, most of the smokers are french, people are not really modest, it is blatantly obvious which people are on the prowl, everyone here LOVES to take pictures, many many people are writing journals, people love to strike up conversations (1st question...where are you from...reminds me of the air force), there are lots of different card games in the world and bad weather does not deterr anyone.
Looks like today will be spent indoors. It is rainy, foggy and very windy. But that is ok. We had LOTS of fresh air yesterday. If I know G, she will "make" us take a walk around the upper deck to stretch our legs. She can't sit for very long. We contemplated trying some yoga on deck yesterday, but you really couldn't just stand...too much rocking.
As we were spending the afternoon in the pub reading, knitting etc., there was a table of "kids" playing a drinking game...a frenchman, 2 australians, 2 spanish speaking girls, a german guy and 3 english people. Seems people from all over do the same kind of things.
Yup, just like I predicted, we just got back from a quick couple of laps around the deck. We really had to walk hunched over against the wind, but at least it wasn't raining. We found out that we will be arriving 4 hours late because of the strong head winds. No big deal. It will be 6am instead of 2am. Breakfast is going to be at 7:15 and we get off at 8am. Our bags have to be in the hall at 7am and they carry them off...just like a cruise ship.
Tonight's BINGO game was a huge success. I won twice. The rules were the winner had to pick someone to dance with and it could not be a friend or relative. I picked some good looking guy, who's name turned out to beJulio and he was from Chile. Luckily they played some latin music and he was a good dancer and easy to follow. I got a kiss after. There was another woman who won with me the first time, and she was shy, so I told her to pick my husband. Terry loved that. The second time I won, it was just me and I picked a young, german man, who we knew from Iguazu Falls. His wife loved it. This was more rock and roll type music. I am sure the kids would have been mortified... well maybe not Nikki. Anyway it was a riot. G won once too, and Bob won the very last game, by NOT having any of the numbers. That made him "King of the Losers".
Below are some pics of the ferry...the cafeteria, the pub, our cabin, the swells (the picture is taken on the top deck) and us spending the afternoon relaxing.
