3/3  B and T went for breakfast pastries this morning, since breakfast was not included. This hostel was not all that great. Not really friendly, no comfy, homey feel to it. The internet didn't work and it was kind of loud. But, it was really clean and the bathrooms were great...really good, hot showers. Kind of strange to be sleeping in the same room with 2 strangers. Luckily they came to bed about 10 minutes after we went. They were very quiet, but no matter how hard you try, you can't help but make some noise. They were 2 young men in their late 20s from Germany. Weird to see them strip to their underwear without too much thought. Very european and latin american. Probably only strange for us.
We got an 8am start with a shuttle ride to the beginning of the trail. Started the trek with fleece, wind jacket, mittens and headband.  Didn't take long to take off the mittens, then thd headband, jacket and fleece. All within 45 minutes. Trekking sure warms you up.  We could have walked the shorter route, but a super steep 1 1/2 hour start. We opted for the longer trail. Of course there was still lots of uphill trekking. This trail took us along a path where we could view Mt. Fitzroy for the majority of the way.  There was also another glacier. About 1/2 way, we stopped for a picnic lunch. We happen to have chosen a field of heather to sit in along a little creek where we filled up our water bottles.  In a clearing by the river we came across two guys. One was skinny dipping, the other was sitting, facing into the sun, shirtless in the yoga pose with his legs bent and crossed. He looked like it was the most normal thing. That place was perfect for meditating.
Towards the end of the hike, we walked by a crystal clear lake and were really tempted to go for a swim. But no suits and it would have been really uncomfortable to finish the trek in wet underwear.
We passed 2 women with very small children. G and I agree, that borders on child abuse. The one little one was begging for agua (water).
We saw 3 condors flying among the sheer cliffs and landing on a ledge. Maybe there was a nest. The sun made it impossible to see.
Once back in town, we stopped at a little bakery for a couple of fresh empanadas. They are quickly becoming our favorite snack. Love the fact they are baked and not deep fried.
We had about 2 hours to kill, so we laid down on the grass in the nice, warm sun and took a little siesta.  A quick walk to the bus station, since the town is really small. The town was built in 1985. There is a ton of building going on. Mostly hostels, small hotels and restaurants. It has become the trekking capital in Patagonia.  The bus left at 6pm to go back to el Calafate.
Got backnat 9:30 and guess what... found my water bottle...YEAH.  We opted for a quick dinner of raviolas and sauce.  Too tired to cook much else.  Now, a nice shower, repack and bed.
This is a picture of Mt. Fitzroy
